Realizing Things

I think Kylie Jenner got it wrong. This year, 2018, is actually the year of “realizing things.” For me at least. So I figured, now is as good time as any to give some advice that I wish I would have listened to a year ago. Let’s get personal.

In life, it’s really easy to take all of the negativity from work, boys, and friendships, bundle it up, and let it weight you down. You isolate. Keep your head down. And lose some of yourself in the process.

My advice – stop pouring into things that don’t do the same. As a single twenty something, living in a big city I’ve had to learn this lesson the hard way. Multiple times. I’m not going to lie and tell you I have it all figured out (because who does?), but I’m taking steps in the right direction. Here’s what I’ve learned:

  1. In your career, there will always be challenges, but if you love what you do, like me, devote yourself to the work and learn as much as you possibly can. Getting recognized for successfully devoting your mind and talent to a project is the best feeling.
  2. If you ever think your partner doesn’t care if you stay or go, dump him.
  3. Friendships come and go, so don’t keep reaching out to fake friends that aren’t supportive. Stay loyal to your best friends, because those are the relationships worth fighting for.

Know your value and don’t settle.
